Hawaiian cruise

I was hoping to blog live from the ship but between limited wifi and a really busy schedule it’s just not possible.  Stay tuned for more posts starting next week!

After a really exhausting double flight we arrived in Honolulu about 2:30 yesterday.  We had to wait for a cab to the airport- $50 cab ride.  Yikes!   We stayed at the Waikiki Marriott through the cruise line.   I have to say I was not impressed with this hotel.  The elevators stopped working at 3 am.  Not good.  Had to hoof it down seven flights a couple of times.  Luckily we were able to get the elevators going up.  I’m glad we didn’t pay for this room.

While we were waiting for our first flight we stopped at Starbucks.  I grabbed a couple of This only fruit bars.  I wish I hadn’t.  I have had tummy trouble ever since.  Not the way to start a vacation.

I do have to disclose here that we are in a suite.  I’m can’t say for sure if that affects my treatment as far as dietary restrictions.  From the moment we stepped on the ship we have received star treatment. Th staff has been very warm and friendly.  We met our concierge Thomas in the suite guest loung after we boarded.  He was very friendly and advised us to contact him for any restaurant reservations or shore excursions.

We were escorted to Cagneys for lunch.  We were greeted by the waitress and I explained my dietary issues.  She said she would send the restaurant manager right over. Ahmed put me at ease right away.  He asked me what I wanted for lunch.  I picked out the diver scallops.  He said that was no problem.  He told me to let him know what I wanted for dinner each night and he would personally make sure my dietary issues were handled properly.

We chose to eat in the main dining room this evening.  I chose to have shrimp risotto tonight.  He said he would contact the restaurant manager and have her contact me.  When we got to our cabin I had a voicemail from her.  We spoke at length on the phone. She said she would speak with me personally at dinner to share options for me- even dessert!

We met our butler Guy also.  He said to let him know if we needed anything.  I’m not sure yet how we will coordinate between the butler and restaurant manager for things like room service.   Ahmed told me that we should run everything g by him so he can make sure my food is safe.

Hawaii is beautiful so far.  I am impressed with the staff on Pride of America.
